Opportunity: Provide hardware support for over 100 Unix systems and peripherals located in dozens of Cities in 20 different States.
Challenges: Many of the Cities are geographically remote. Some locations are more than 400 miles from the nearest, large metropolitan area.
Solution: Abtech Support is able to provide 24X7 support coverage with a 4-hr response to almost 90% of the systems, which are located in 19 Cities in 13 States. Abtech Support is able to provide 24X7 support coverage with a slightly higher response to 10% of the systems, which are located in 8 Cities in 7 States. To meet the needs of this customer, Abtech Support hired extra Customer Engineers and opened 2 new support offices.
Each support office has a kit of spare parts dedicated to this customer. All spare parts kits at all support offices are stocked, managed and replenished by Abtech Support. All spare parts for these systems were located, purchased, tested, grouped into kits, and shipped to support offices across the US, within 2 weeks of being awarded the contract for support and before the contract began. All engineers are backed by a bi-coastal software support team with decades of Unix and proprietary O/S experience.

Case Study: Performance Analysis And Infrastructure Design For Rapidly Growing Business
A leading hospital billing service was concerned that their hardware systems would be overwhelmed because of plans to increase their service from 400 to 1000 users. Their needs were to decrease the database query time, increase their disk space, and to implement redundancy in the system.
After consulting with the hospital billing service, Abtech determined that the company needed to upgrade several of their systems. The subsequent implementation gave the billing service the ability to immediately increase their performance by three times their current configuration while also providing immense expansion capabilities. Included was the replication software so they could move from their current environment to the new one and then use the previous hardware for disaster recovery purposes.

Case Study: Datacenter Move For Major Telecom Company
A major telecommunications service provider on a large Caribbean island was experiencing noticeable declines in performance on their production systems. With approximately 160,000 telephone customers, there was an imminent danger of dropping phone calls if the systems were to overload. The Telco needed to upgrade their hardware systems immediately because of an upcoming holiday weekend. Also, they required a minimal effect on daily operations and minimal risk of failure during the upgrade.
Abtech was notified on a Monday and was able to provide the logistics of setting up a test environment by Wednesday. The location of the test environment was one of Abtech’s nationwide service depots. Once these new systems were tested by Abtech and Telco engineers, Abtech personnel properly packaged the equipment for safe transport back to the customer’s island facility.

Case Study: Disaster Recovery Design And Implementation For Large Manufacturer
Large manufacturing company in Los Angeles requires a Disaster Recovery solution for their UNIX system. The requirement consisted of connecting into the corporate network backbone to service over 500 users in 6 different countries using Direct Satellite Communications for both IP and Telephony purposes, utilizing a highly secure encrypted solution. Abtech was hired to develop, design, document, configure and implement the DR solution. The solution encompassed a sophisticated low cost “instant-on” service, utilizing DOD approved products and services. A complete end-to-end DR test is conducted on an annual basis to ensure IP connectivity, printing and performance to all facilities affected.

A large retail parts center required a disaster recovery (DR) solution to protect against unscheduled downtime. Abtech was hired to develop and implement a DR plan. Using asynchronous mirroring in combination with Abtech’s dedicated DR/Support Center in San Diego the customer was able to achieve a cost effective solution to provide both DR and real-time backup. This process was created with no configuration changes to the customers existing infrastructure and no impact on their environment. Because the DR system is maintained by Abtech in their DR center, the customer receives 24x7x365 access to the replicated system via high speed, secure networking services. The solution provides for immediate switchover in case of a disaster and the system is tested twice a year for effectiveness.
